Daufuskie Island

Daufuskie Island is the historic and picturesque setting for Pat Conroy's novel, The Water Is Wide. Known as “Yamacraw Island” in the novel, the real Daufuskie Island is home to a way of life that’s almost disappeared in the Lowcountry of the South Carolina and Georgia Coasts. It is so unique and beautiful—just a peaceful ferry ride from Hilton Head’s north end. The island has three golf courses, the Bloody Point Course, the Melrose Golf Course, and the 20 hole Haig Point Signature Course plus the 9 hole Haig Point Osprey Course. Guided tours and self-guided tours are available to learn about the amazing history and background of this island. Transport yourself on bikes and in golf carts and enjoy exploring this naturally-preserved tropical paradise. Or just lounge around and soak up the warmth and sunshine on the spectacular beaches or around the pools. Dining and entertainment are also available.
